Welcome
to Madrid!
Madrid is situated in the heart of the Iberian Peninsula.
It’s climate is in general warm and sunny, and as
a city, it is widely considered to be one of the liveliest,
most welcoming and interesting cities in Europe.
The inhabitants of Madrid are known for their friendliness
and hospitality.
The city was named European Capital of Culture in 1992,
because of the wide range of cultural activities on offer,
from art to cinema and from music to theatre.
Almost everyone has heard of the famous “movida
madrileña”, although very few actually know
what exactly it means, as it is a term which very nearly
defies translation. More or less, “movida”
refers to constant movement, or comings and goings, and
this is one of the favourite pastimes of Madrid’s
inhabitants. This consists of moving from one bar to another,
from one disco to another, and so on until the early hours.
Madrid is, therefore, not surprisingly Europe’s
nightlife capital. The range and number of bars is quite
simply staggering.
